Stephen H. Cypen, Esq., Editor

The Florida Supreme Court, in a lengthy opinion, has affirmed Circuit Judge Terry Lewis’s opinion, and approved the congressional maps submitted by the Fair Districts Coalition. The decision approves the final congressional districting plan in accordance with the Fair Districts Amendment and in accordance with the Court’s previous opinion earlier this year. The Court approved in full the trial court’s “Order Recommending Adoption of Remedial Map.” This opinion, the eighth concerning legislative or congressional apportionment during the decade since the adoption of the landmark Fair Districts Amendment, should bring much needed finality to litigation concerning the state’s congressional redistricting that has now spanned nearly four years in state courts.
